Rainy days and Mondays*

Ruskin Drive was a true tester for the regular faithful today Squally rain and winds battered the bejaysus out of all and sundry Coach Davies was a late withdrawal with a positive Covid test result yesterday evening We wish him a very speedy and healthy recovery Today's Blog is courtesy of Phil Middleton who is rapidly becoming a very accomplished Blogist Thanks Phil a Press Pass is your next step That will get you into the Boot Room whenever you're ready

It fell to Capt. Andy to do his best to warm up those assembled and endeavour he certainly did as 16 players were whipped into an 8 -a-side contest to sort out the feint hearted

The teams were;

Green - Andy, Crusoe, Chopper, Les, Anita, Steve Goldie, Colin and Wayne

Blue - Citeh Geoff, Jeff Betty, Tom, Phil, Steve Honeyman, Tony, Mark and Dave Seagull

The conditions called for cool heads and calmness, so there were few chances and less speculative shooting than on other occasions Jeff Betty served as stand in match official and performed the thankless task with calm authority The players performed admirably with fairness and good sportsmanship responding well to the challenging circumstances Steve the Honeyman secured a the victory for the Blues with two goals He's been in a rich vein of form of late and his goals were fine reward Green's consolation in a close affair was a solitary goal from the penalty spot by Dave Crusoe Robinson The penalty awarded after Tom had stretched his frame into the area whether by fair means or foul After a little thought Jeff pointed to the spot and the goal meant a 2-1 victory for Blues on a day when even the circling seagulls found the conditions hard to take

Special mentions to; Anita, who had her best game yet and almost grabbed a goal for her efforts, and Dave Seagull who tackled well and held up the ball to bring in his team mates to great affect

After the deluge, there was a further deluge and consequently the bibs once peeled off were several pounds heavier than on arrival But we'll keep our fingers crossed for better weather for Wednesday's Sutton session Phil expressed the hope that we do have drier conditions or we could have 24 claimants on the indoor pitch for that session
