Just another day*

Say what you like about Walking Football and Walking Footballers no one could ever deny their resilience Ruskin AstroTurf was a picture of serenity A lovely autumn setting for our genteel pursuit of an hour‘s sport The recent injury toll continues to cause headaches but thankfully Coach Davies was immune from the pressure of quart and pint pot quandary

Colin put in his second appearance in quick time, but he is one of our current walking wounded and so had to focus on sharpening up his ballboy skills

After a suitable warm up the Teams were prepared thanks to Moneyball for play

Green - Tom, Phil, Tony, Alex (a welcome return to playing action after convalescence in his hollowed-out volcano lair) Steve Honeyman, Steve Goldie and Les

Blue - Andy, Citeh Geoff, Cockney Rebel, Chopper, Dave Seagull (returning after subs related illness), Thatto Dave and Coach (a fixture between the posts for the session)

Jeff Betty put in another assured if quiet performance as Referee and got play underway with Blues defending the early action Green starting in a hurry to seek an opener A sweeping move led to Tony unselfishly squaring the ball to the Honeyman who tucked away a smart finish inside the near post 1-0 and the pea still rattling around inside Jeff’s Acme Thunderer

Blues regained their composure and took a grip on play without troubling the scorers Two periods of play passed with lots of effort, some neat passing The returning Seagull was heavily involved in Blues fight back, his hold up play a feature of the game Thatto Dave provided an excellent chance that was finished in style by Citeh Geoff (this is becoming a regular feature of recent games after apparent years of goal abstinence)

1-1 The game effectively over despite a late flurry of activity The result a fair reflection of the morning‘s endeavours

Coach declared his satisfaction with the spirit on show from both sides “Decisions were occasionally queried but accepted” Chopper enjoyed the morning’s play but declared Jeff “a bit handy with that whistle“

Jeff himself was happy with the game and set up a new post match tradition with some of the crew joining him in the cafe/lounge for a chat over a cuppa Is this Monday’s answer to the Wednesday night Boot Room sessions? Best Wishes were expressed for colleagues undergoing surgery

Let’s do it all again on Wednesday
