It’s All Right*

Updated: 2 days ago

May seemlessly gave way to June, like it was simply another month as we continue to race through 2026 Our sessions were tremendously enjoyable this week for no other reason than players simply decided to let their ability do the talking And that’s all right

The traditional Monday morning Ruskin Sports Village session opened the fun with a cast of thousands (perhaps not literally) ready to do battle in the following teams;

Purple - Phil the Cat, Les H, Andy Man, Trish, John Hill & the Honeyman

Blue (some with real kit) - Aldo, Snakehips, Lefty Bridge, Roy, Monday Michelle & Haggis

Black - Margaret, Mark NR, McSpeed, Les Meldrew & Citeh Geoff

Green - Dave Robbo, Roger, Eileen, Barry Wizz & Tom Stretch

Old Gold - Mike Thomo, Kerry, Ashy, Little John, GRAV & Brian

Red - Mike Bates, Sheila, Chris K, Cockney Rebel & Colin

For the purists you’ll see that the Red team included Mike & Martin on the same team thus avoiding another ‘coming together’ Green featured domestic combo Eileen & Roger to avoid any potential domestic conflicts afterwards

Kerry made her debut in a side that was finely balanced and assembled to impress

Referees for the session were El Presidente and Charlie with the Black and Green facing each other for the duration without an Official but with Mr Meldrew offering this overview

“ Blacks v Green was bit of one sided game. Played in good spirits even though Tom Stretch hit the deck twice after collisions with McSpeed. Black raced into a half time lead of 4-2 and would have been further ahead were it not for 2 good saves from Roger and some wayward shooting. Half time Meldrew and Roger swapped sides Green consequently had more of ball but Black continued to dominate.

Final score 11-6 to Black.

Black scorers McSpeed 7, Margaret 2, Mark No Relation 2

Green scorers were Dave Robbo 1, Tom 2, Barry 2 and Meldrew 1

The best goal was one by Margaret. She dispossessed a Green attacker and followed her clearance to beat Tom Stretch in the Green goal all end up. She had an excellent game”

Purple and Old Gold produced a much tighter game with Old Gold glistening to a narrow victory over imperial Purple by the odd goal in five Goals by Brian and a brace by Mike Thomo secured the win despite Purple staying in the contest with strikes from Phil the Cat and Steve Honeyman

Enjoyable fare for Charlie to adjudicate over 3-2 Old Gold triumphant

There was a distinct Red-faced imbalance about the opening sequence of Red’s game with Blue The Blue shirts were in as little evidence as the Blue defence as Red romped 5-nil ahead thanks to a Chris Kelsall hat trick and goals by Colin and Sheila After the break and a serious reshuffle of deckchairs Blue finally hit back Goals from Aldo 2 and Michelle 2 put a different tone to proceedings A late (geddit) goal by Colin steadied the Red mini collapse but it ended Red 7 and comfortable winners Blue 4 A decent game though hardly a contest for spells of the game

Wednesday’s Sutton SoccerDome session echoed the recent swell of numbers with 32 players gracing the Saharan desert conditions of the MUGA pitch (multi use game area) After changeable weather earlier in the day our session passed off in benign conditions Those selected were;

Yellow - Chris 10P, Deano, Chris 4G, Cockney Rebel, Roger, Kirsty, Little John and Tom Stretch

Orange - Lewis, Honeyman, Eileen, Jason, Les H, Ian Harding & Robin

Red - Sully, Mike Thomo, Benno, Andy Man, PJ, Haggis & GRAV

White - Joe the Ghost, Simon, S Carine, Darron, Doug, Paul Cott & Neil (but not Cornelius)

Referees for the evening’s extravaganza were Eamon (I’ve a whistle and intend to use it) and El Presidente ( who oft times forgets he’s got a whistle) Two extremely enjoyable games played at full throttle without dissent or even raised eyebrows

White v Red was a peach to be involved with Excellent passing, support play and some fine goals White took early lead when Paul Cott stroked the ball into the far corner white ahead before PJ equalised A Steve Carine penalty and superb strike from Simon pushed White 3-1 ahead PJ scored again to narrow the lead White hit three unanswered goals through Darron and. Steve Carine brace the 6-2 score line slightly flattering White Unpeturbed Red hit back and took a grip on possession as White tired Goals by Andy Man and PJ his third of the night meant White were under the cosh although still 6-4 ahead Time elapsed with Red desperately trying to level but White doing just enough to hold out 6-4 the final score But what a terrific game

There was a narrow result on the adjacent pitch with 3 not walking penalties decisively tipping the balance 6-5 Orange and Yellow battling until the final blast on the trusty Acme Thunderer The late addition of Referee Eamon meant no notes were possible to spell out what an enjoyable match it was I’m assured there was a sweet Sussex Sweep employed, Chris 10P and Ian Harding fired goals too but sadly this can’t be verified as PGMOL was out of action, convalescing after Set Piece FC failed in the Euro Big Cup

A great week for SHWFC underlining It’s All Right
